Underground photographer Leee Black Childers (1945-2014) describes Warhol Superstar Jackie Curtis’ grandmother “Slugger Ann,” who ran a working class bar of the same name on New York City’s Lower East Side (in the days when it was a slum). Fascinating bit of forgotten New York ephemera that was cut from the Jackie Curtis documentary Superstar in a Housedress.
The portrait behind him is of New York legend Sylvia Miles, and oh, I wonder who got it after Leee passed away last month. I hope it didn’t end up in some trash bin, it’s just FABULOUS (although legend has it she haaaates it).
Below: Leee with some rando 70’s hottie. Any guesses?
