Yes, you heard it here second, Britain’s The Daily Bugle is reporting that Lady Gaga has signed on to star in the remake of the 70s classic, Mahogany, which originally starred Diana Ross with a mostly black cast.
Star is Born director and co-star, Bradley Cooper is set to direct. No word from The Boss herself, but sources close to the 75 year-old icon says she HATES the idea and is FURIOUS.
The plot of Mahogany follows the rise of struggling Chicago fashion design student Tracy (Gaga) who goes from rags to riches when a chance meeting with hotshot fashion photographer Sean (Bradley Cooper) in the department store where she works leads to a runway life as a model in Rome. Tracy’s overnight success and strong ambitions bring her professional success as a designer, but her diva antics may destroy her relationship with social activist Briana (to be played by RuPaul’s Drag Race alum, Shangela), as well as her respect in the fashion world.
Obviously Gaga’s iconic fashion status and superstar divadom lends credence to role, but a title change is desperately needed. The project is as yet Untitled.
Stay tuned… you know Hollywood, tomorrow this could all fall apart.
