Designed by renowned artist Jeff Koons, the ArtPop cover features a nude Gaga with one of the artist’s blue balls between her legs and images of Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus” splintered around her. “I’m nervous and excited to share something that’s such a piece of my heart,” Lady Gaga tweeted this morning. “Something I cherish deeply. A real depiction of my mind through his.” Of course, Madonna fans are already up in arms, saying that it’s a rip-off of the Hard Candy album cover, but really, you can parse any image and find some antecedent SOMEWHERE in pop culture, right? I mean, surely she didn’t go to Jeff Koons and say “Do THIS.” I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt on this one.
