The intergenerational pairing of two American treasures takes on a wistful beauty in “Dream Dancing” covered by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett. The sumptuous video cuts between studio footage and black and white portraiture.
The album Love For Sale is a collection of Cole Porter standards, and is almost certainly 95-year-old Tony Bennett’s final album. Via The Guardian:
It’s on the less ubiquitous songs, however, that the pair seem to have the most fun, be it gliding around the fluttering I Concentrate on You, or offering up a gorgeous swansong to their partnership on Dream Dancing. Bennett, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016, is also in reflective mood on the solo Just One of Those Things, the lines “so goodbye dear and amen, here’s hoping we meet now and then” given an extra piquancy. Overall, though, this ebullient album feels like a fond farewell rather than a solemn goodbye.
Their upbeat “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” is a delight as well:
The unlikely duo had a string of hits from their collaboration a decade ago. Gaga said she’s not sure if Bennett remembers her, but that as soon as the music starts, something comes alive in his mind.
Let’s end with their charming “I Get a Kick Out Of You,” and soak in their affection for each other.
