The yet-to-open Mandarin Hotel, an integral structure in Beijing’s new CCTV Headquarters complex, was set ablaze last night by a stray firework from the nearby Chinese Lantern festival. See footage of the blaze here. Designed by Euro-starchitect Rem Koolhaas’ firm, OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture), the completion of the CCTV Complex has been highly anticipated by architecture fans worldwide. No word yet on how the fire will affect the opening schedule. As of this morning, the hotel portion appears to have burned to the ground.
