Meet the Most Excellent Duchess of Alba, full name (deep breath): Doña María del Rosario Cayetana Paloma Alfonsa Victoria Eugenia Fernanda Teresa Francisca de Paula Lourdes Antonia Josefa Fausta Rita Castor Dorotea Santa Esperanza Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva Falcó y Gurtubay, 18th Duchess of Alba and current head of the House of Alba (NOT a vogueing house).

She is recognized by Guinness World Records as being the most noble person on earth, holding more titles recognized by existing governments than any other noble (including Queen Elizabeth). She is the Duchess of 14 duchies, the Marchioness of 17 marquessates, the Countess of 11 counties, the Viscountess of La Calzada, and the 29th Lady of Moguer, as well as the Honorary President of the Spanish Red Cross, the Honorary Mayor of Liria, the Marshal of Castilla, the Constable of Aragon, and ON and ON and ON… Truly, she has the bluest blood IN ALL THE WORLD.

But here’s where she gets really interesting: Because she is SO NOBLE, and so high up there in terms of birthright and heritage and royal privilege, she is the ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD who is not required to kneel before the Pope. In fact, he might have to kneel before HER. Her title also affords her the right to ride a horse into the Seville Cathedral, which is a fabulous right to have, and I hope she does it with alarming frequency. Other fun facts: She’s related to Mary, Queen of Scots, Christopher Columbus, and Winston Churchill, her second marriage was to a Catholic priest, and she’s currently trying to marry a man 24 years younger than she is, but her children (and Queen Elizabeth) are trying to cockblock her.
