“You know NOTHING, Bruce Wayne!”
RevengeOfTheFans is speculating that brooding Game of Thrones hunk Kit Harrington has the inside track to take over as Batman in the DCU, after Warner Bros requested some digital mock-ups of him last June. Studios often do that, you see, when they want to see what an actor would look like in a particular costume- if that actor is maybe busy on another project at the moment and unable to come in and model it themselves. In a mockup, they can also change hair color and hairstyle and take off beards – you know really play around with the actor’s look and suss things out without committing to anything permanently.
There are a couple of other big-time A-listers up for the role when Ben Affleck vacates it this year – most notably Jake Gyllenhaal and Jack Huston.
Harrington is 5’8, which puts him in the same range as Gyllenhaal and Huston, with all three actors being between 5’8 and 6′- once again demonstrating that The Batman director Matt Reeves isn’t hung up on casting a big guy for Batman. Also notable here is that Harrington, unlike those other two, is far closer to the age I hear Bruce Wayne will be in the movie. If you’ll recall, in my last significant update on The Batman– which Matt Reeves would go on to confirm most of a week later- I shared that they’re looking for someone to play a Batsy who’s between 25 and 30 years of age. Harington is 31.
Then there are a couple of dark horses ALSO in contention for the role: Super-adorable it-boy Noah Centineo (All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser) (SQUEEEEEEEEEAL!) and Jack O’Connell.
But with those two, it’s unclear why their names are currently being spoken in the same breath as this film by casting people in Hollywood right now. I don’t know if it’s because the studio wants them, or because their agents are campaigning for them to read for the role, or if they’re up for different, supporting roles in the film. The details with them are vague, at best.
I’m thinking it’s Harington’s role to lose as Gyllenhaal is probably looking for Oscar bait in this point in his career, and the others just aren’t at the level Warner Bros wants or needs.
SO— What do you think? Can you see Jon Snow in the Batsuit? He’s got the brooding part down. And the whispery growl. Then there’s the fact that he’d fill out a spandex suit quite nicely. I think it’s a done deal.
And in other Kit Harrington/superhero news today that may or may not be related…
