Attention manic pixie dream girls: The illustrious Kirsten Dunst, who snagged a well deserved Emmy nomination this past year for her magnetic and captivating portrayal of Peggy Blumquist – a nutty beautician gone rogue in Fargo’s addictive second season – is set to make her directorial debut with Slyvia Plath’s “The Bell Jar” starring none other than child actress turned leading lady vampire: Dakota Fanning. If you’re the president of your local Sad Girls Club like me, than you couldn’t be MORE excited about this collaboration!
The Bell Jar is set in the 1950s and follows Greenwood, who takes an internship at a magazine in New York City and, after she returns home to Boston, begins to suffer from mental illness.
Dunst is NO stranger to sad girl cinema. Take a look at her beautiful and iconic roles that have solidified her as one of our generation’s most prized possessions:
Lux Lisbon in “Virgin Suicides”, 1999
“Marie Antoinette,” 2006
“Melancholia,” 2011
To celebrate, put on some Beach House, Tame Impala, even Lana Del Rey. Heck! Throw on a re-run of Daria and let yourself FEEL EVERYTHING.
