Grace Jones might have been the most famous Jones to show up at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Wales, on Friday night to help break the Guinness record for the largest gathering of people with the same surname. Previous record holders were the 583 Norbergs who showed up in Sweden in 2004, but they pale compared to Friday’s 1,224 Joneses, the new winners. Grace Jones performed two songs and Tom Jones sent his best wishes. Cardiff was chosen as the site for the event because Jones is the most common name in Wales, with 13.5% of the population claiming it; it’s the second most common name in the UK, and fourth in the US. But the Joneses aren’t the most gracious winners: An organizer of the event said the purpose was “to consign the Norbergs to the dustbin of world-record history.” (Source)
