Katie Couric sat down with Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova for a talk on Yahoo News this week. The conversation skipped around from “ridiculous” U.S. airstrikes in Syria, to fake news and President Trump, among other topics.
Then Katie brought up the reports of concentration camps in Chechnya in which gay men have been tortured and killed.
That’s when things got chilly.
Zakharova, whose job description is literally “international relationships,” shut Katie down, repeatedly saying she wasn’t qualified to discuss the issue, it was outside her job duties, she had no response, she didn’t know, nyet, nyet, nyet.
Katie continued pressing, and eventually got a meagre “Russia is investigating it” – but essentially it was deflect and deny, deflect and deny.
Watch it below. (via Queerty)
