From HuffPo: “Bieber dives into the world of adulthood head first, speeding through the streets of Los Angeles, making out with his on-screen girlfriend (in bed!) and taking a brutal beating from Michael Madsen.” And you might think that sounds fabulous, until you remember that Madesen was arrested in March following a fight with his teenage son and charged with child cruelty, and then the whole thing just feels sort of sordid and icky. Why on earth would they hire HIM of all people to portray the Bieber-beater? And maybe I’m just being cranky and over-thinking it, but it really GRINDS MY GEARS when Justin sings that “as long as you love me we could be homeless, we could be starving, we could be broke.” I hate when rich people say money doesn’t matter. He’s worth a hundred million dollars. I DON’T think he’d be fine with starving, and I don’t think he’d be fine if he suddenly went broke, no matter how much his girlfriend loves him. And it feels glib and vaguely insensitive to people who really ARE homeless and starving to say it wouldn’t be a big deal. It’s like Brad and Angelina saying looks don’t matter. It’s bullshit. But other than that, YAY. I love it.
