Jussie Smollett was a no-show at this weekend’s NAACP Image Awards ceremony last night. A four-time nominee (and one-time winner) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Smollett lost to Grey’s Anatomy‘s Jesse Williams.
Presenter Chris Rock addressed the HUGE elephant in the room, where he cracked wise about Smollett just four days after prosecutors dropped all charges against him.
“They said no Jussie Smollett jokes. I know. What a waste of light skin. You know what I could do with that light skin? That curly hair? My career would be out of here. Fucking RUNNING Hollywood!
What the hell was he thinking? You’re Jessie from now on… You don’t even get the ‘U’ no more. That ‘U’ was respect. You ain’t gettin’ no respect from me.”
Saturday Night Live weighed in with a sketch and two slams during Weekend Update.
Earlier this month, SNL spoofed Shark Tank with Chris Redd as Smollett shortly after the actor-singer had been charged. Tonight, Redd reprised his role as Jussie in a sketch with his manager, played by host Sandra Oh, Fox execs (Ego Nwodim, Kate McKinnon and Mikey Day) and Empireco-creator Lee Daniels played by Kenan Thompson.
Fox execs are mad over Smollett being two hours late for the meeting, and his manager comes to his defense.
“Jussie Smollett was a victim….”
Just then Redd as Smollett bursts in, wearing a Make America Great Again hat and claiming that he had been attacked again.
There’s more, but I won’t spoil it…
Smollett was also the subject of jokes during Weekend Update as co-host Colin Jost said,
“This week made me feel insane. All the people I was told were bad guys all got away with it, Donald Trump, Jussie Smollett and worst of all, Duke.”
In a bit as Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro, Cecily Strong says,
“(Donald Trump) is getting rid of Jussie Smollett and he is bring back Roseanne. She is getting a new show, The Barrs; it’s going to be Roseanne and William Barr, and the dirtiest couch you have ever seen, and they are going to tell it like they see it, and they are going to take all the damn Ambien they want, period.”
