Jude Law slugged a female photographer last night outside the posh Automat restaurant in London’s Mayfair district. Earlier in the evening he’d been obliging fans with photos and autographs outside a Covent Garden theatre where he’s been acting in Hamlet. At around 11PM he went to the restaurant for an A-list dinner party hosted by director Christopher Nolan. As he was leaving, “I was the first one to take his picture,” said Harsha Gopal. “After I’d taken a few I was starting to move away when I felt his hand come across my face, and then there was a push. There was a massive thud, it was really loud. It was deliberate, you could see it in his face.” A witness says, “He struck his arm out so powerfully, he knew that it would hit someone. He definitely wanted to hit someone.” After striking Gopal and realizing she was female, Law allegedly walked away without apology.
Law’s attorney this morning said, “Last night’s incident was an accident. Jude was blinded by the camera flashes…, raised his hand to shield himself, and inadvertently struck somebody standing very close. He apologized and left. Pictures of this sort can often be misleading.” (via The London Paper)
