Music icon Joni Mitchell made a rare public appearance on Wednesday night to see Blondie perform at the Santa Barbara Bowl in California.
Blondie guitarist Chris Stein wrote on Facebook,
“I’m dead. I don’t have that many heroes. Joni was such a huge influence on my musical life it’s hard to express.”
Concert-goers said Mitchell, who has been confined to a wheelchair since suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015, was brought in about halfway through Blondie’s set.
The 75-year-old singer-songwriter wore a hat and sunglasses as she smiled for a backstage photo with Debbie Harry, 74.
Mitchell appeared last November at Both Sides Now – Joni 75, a Birthday Celebration in Los Angeles, where artists like James Taylor, Seal and Kris Kristofferson performed her songs.
