Drag Out The Vote, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works with drag performers to register, educate and turn out voters, is teaming up with The New Georgia Project and a fierce cast of celebrity activists for a ninety-minute virtual text-bank drag show, hosted by John Cameron Mitchell and Michelle Visage. Expect performances by tons of RuPaul’s Drag Race queens, including Alaska, Jinkx Monsoon, Peppermint and Brita Filter; Qya Cristál (Miss Gay USofA Massachusetts 2018); and Mitchell will be reprising a song from Hedwig & the Angry Inch with Stephen Trask– the Grammy-nominated musician who composed the music and lyrics for Hedwig.
John Cameron Mitchell:
“I didn’t want to kick myself for not doing what I can to finish the amazing work these organizations are doing to register voters, and show the world that Georgia is an amazingly diverse state with a rich history and an even richer future!”
Jackie Huba (Founder and Executive Director of Drag Out The Vote):
“Given the significance and immediacy of Georgia’s special runoff election, the team at Drag Out The Vote knew it was time to roll up our sleeves, touch up our lipgloss, and get ready to help Georgia voters sashay to the polls in January. With no time to waste, our team has worked to turn around this event to truly demonstrate that our work is not done – we’re utilizing the art and activism of drag into 2021 and beyond, because every election is critical.”
The text-bank drag show is by RSVP only and will be hosted on Zoom’s Webinar platform, on Sunday, December 13th at 2PM PT/4PM CT/5 PM ET. Got to dragoutthe.vote for more info.
