
Jinkx Monsoon is joining the cast of the BBC’s Doctor Who series.
Showrunner Russell T Davies said,
In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and ‘Doctor Who’ will never be the same again.”
Monsoon said,
I’m honored, thrilled, and utterly excited to join ‘Doctor Who!’ Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer — I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”
Monsoon is set to be playing a major role in the series.
Jinkx recently completed al run on Broadway as Matron Mama Morton in Chicago and also appears in the WOW Presents Plus original, Sketchy Queens. She is also debuting a comedy special Jinkx Monsoon: Red Head Redemption that premieres May 16.
Doctor Who began in 1963 and follows the adventures of a Time Lord known as The Doctor who travels the universe in a spaceship called the TARDIS with an extraterrestrial being with a human appearance.
The series returns in November with three special episodes with David Tennant as the 14th Doctor to coincide with the 60th anniversary.
Doctor Who is exclusively be available on Disney+ outside of the U.K. and Ireland. Domestically it remains on the BBC.
