Jennifer Lewis hopes sharing her story will help others come forward: “I have absolutely no problem talking about my molestation. I talk about it because I want other women to confront that however they can.”
Lewis says it happened when she was riding home from a choir event in her pastor’s car.
She says, “He took everything from me in that moment.” It took God from her. It took her mother from her, because her mother did nothing and never spoke of it again after Lewis told her. And it took her career, because right before the pastor pulled the car over, Lewis had asked him, “Do you think I can be a star?”
“He insulted everything that I was, my entire foundation for being alive.”
Her hard-earned wisdom is this:
“If that first person doesn’t listen, you tell somebody else. You tell until somebody listens.”
