Jared Leto posted on Instagram that he’ll be playing iconic artist Andy Warhol in an upcoming film.
“So grateful and excited about the opportunity.
Happy belated birthday. We miss you and your genius.”
Leto didn’t any more details on the project, but in 2016 he acquired the rights to the 1989 book Warhol: The Biography by Victor Bockris. Screenwriter Terence Winter (The Wolf of Wall Street) was set to use the biography as a starting point for the film, called simply Warhol.
Warhol was gay, although his sex life was never part of his public life in the media. Leto of course won an Oscar for playing a trans woman with AIDS in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club, although today’s new woke world would even allow him to play part. (* See Halle Berry.)
There are plenty of people alive who knew Andy to give him pointers on what Warhol was really like.
