The annual Met Ball is the biggest social ta-doo of the year, the must-be-seen-at soiree that Everybody Who Is Anybody attends. Getting an invitation is harder to come by than one of Willy Wonka‘s golden tickets, and the anointed few who receive them are damned grateful for the privilege of attending. That’s why it’s a liiiiiiiiiitttle bit odd that former co-chairs Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have bowed out of this year’s festivities. According to Page 6, they are simply “too busy” this year.
Hmmm.
OK.
Could it be that the most powerful couple in the free world feel a bit… ABOVE… the expected throngs of reality stars, social media upstarts, and fashion filler?
Or is it, as PAPER suspects,
that the duo’s decision may have something to do with the fact that many of the celebrities in attendance were very vocal Clinton supporters during the election and the Trumps are no longer the most popular fam in town. Hey, I’m not saying they’re scared, but after the Tiffany Trump fashion week situation, surely the prospect of mingling with liberal superstars isn’t hugely enticing.
Whatever, a reason, they’ll be no-shows this year. Which means TWO TICKETS have just freed up. One for you and one for me? LET’S GO!
