Jamie Lee Curtis hopes her family can shed some light on communicationing openly and learning,
Curtis told People,
“It’s speaking a new language.”
It’s learning new terminology and words. And I’m going to blow it, I’m going to make mistakes. I would like to try to avoid making big mistakes.”
Ruby told the magazine that, as the child of two famous parents (Her father is director Christopher Guest)
“I’m happy to talk about my experiences now.
Me coming out has nothing to do with my mom being famous. I’ve tried to stay out of the spotlight for many years, or at least done my best to. I’m happy to be more visible if it helps others.”
Ruby is currently working as a video editor for a YouTube gaming personality. Curtis went on to say that she’s not telling other parents how to feel about their own children,
“I’m not proselytizing, and I’m not trying to force-feed something to people,
‘This is our family’s experience.’ I am here to support Ruby. That is my job.”
Navigating Ruby’s coming out has been a long process, and that she’s continuing to follow her daughter’s lead.
“I’m a grateful student. I’m learning so much from Ruby. The conversation is ongoing.
But I want to know: How can I do this better?”
That desire to do better — and that admission of not having all the answers — resonated with Ruby. “You’ve done the most you can, and that’s all I want,. Helping others is something everyone should do.”
Curtis reflected on the potential impact of their mother-daughter interview,
“If one person reads this, sees a picture of Ruby and me and says, ‘I feel free to say this is who I am,’ then it’s worth it.”
