“Where were you when Jackson was acquitted?” Strange, but I guess that’s what my kids willl be asking in a few years. There was a palpable tension in the house last night as they stayed up way past their bedtime to catch the verdict of their first big celebrity trial. Kinda cute, eh? Their reaction? Well they were genuinely dumbfounded. Having followed the daily reconstruction of the case of the SKY News in the UK they, along with many others, had him down as guilty. But, like The Sun newspaper says on its frontpage “He Beat It.” The paper goes on to devote a further hyperbolic six pages to the verdict. In The London Times, psychic, spoon bender and Jackson ally Uri Geller is quoted as saying “I’m trembling, this is so important…” Uri, we’re all quivering! The Mirror, The Sun’s major tabloid rival, devotes a meagre three pages to Jackson. Starting with a rather unimaginative “Not Guilty” headline, followed up with two more thoughtful pages examining ” A Life In Ruins: Jackson innocent but tainted forever.” Innocent but tainted forever…I guess that how I feel about my kids’ initiation into the weird world of justice celebrity-style.
