So get out there and stop the fear and loating, people. The International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) was started in 2004 by French academic Louis-Georges Tin, and this year over 50 countries will be taking part in celebrations. Unlike Pride events, IDAHO focuses on homophobia rather than an expression of sexuality.
“Our intention is to oppose bigotry and extremism by promoting progressive voices that oppose the use of religious arguments to perpetrate violence and hate,” says Tin. Part of the celebration this year includes the Great Global Kiss-In, flash-mob gatherings of public kissing. Try to find one in your area today. And if you can’t find one, start one.
