In 1996, Cuervo bought an eight-acre island in the West Indies as a place to promote its product and show off the “joys of the Cuervo lifestyle,” as an article in OMMA magazine put it. The island was christened CuervoNation, and part of the island’s early PR was the Miss Republic of Cuervo Gold contest, in which a handful of girls vied for the crown to be eligible for the Miss Universe pageant. (We love the evening wear portion of the contest.) One of the contestants was a happy young Anna Nicole Smith. We have this promotional tape in our basement because selections from it were used in WOW’s documentary, Dark Roots: The Unauthorized Anna Nicole. We don’t want to spoil the surprise, but Smith wins the Miss Republic of Cuervo Gold crown.
Meanwhile, World of Wonder congratulates Smith on the birth of her baby, and sends sincere condolences on the loss of her son. We really do.
