Holycrapholycrapholycrap. How have I never heard of the blessed angel Cary Joji Fukunaga? Like a thunderclap he rose from the audience last night to accept his Best Director win for True Detective and THE WORLD GASPED. That square jaw! The chiseled cheekbones! The nerdy glasses! Those kooky French braids! Yeah…. Cary could get it. I’m starting the Cary Joji Fukunaga fan club today.
Via The NY Daily News:
“True Detective” director Cary Joji Fukunaga managed to become a trending topic on Twitter and other social media for winning his first Emmy award, but people were more focused on his looks than his new gold statue.
The film and television director, 37, proved swoon-worthy in his tux and glasses, even managing to successfully pull off braided hair (the new man bun?) while giving his humble acceptance speech.
While his body of work has been behind the scenes, Fukunaga is no stranger to Hollywood. The filmmaker previously garnered critical acclaim for directing dramas “Sin Nombre” and “Jane Eyre.”
He even reportedly dated actress Michelle Williams for some time in 2011.
Fukunaga’s next project — adapting the Uzodinma Iweala novel “Beasts of No Nation” into a film of the same name, starring Idris Elba, no less — is sure to lead to even more buzz.
