Peppa Pig’s Instagram post celebrated Pride Month and the nasty comments were INSTA-taneous…
Peppa and her family and friends posed in front of a rainbow, along with Penny Polar Bear who has two mothers.
The innocent, sweet post was been blasted by homophobes, who expressed concern that children even KNOWING that LGBTQ people exist is damaging.
On Christmas you posted Happy Holidays in fear of offending but you have no problem posting for Pride.
Do you think more of your audience celebrates Christmas or Pride?”
Sexuality needs to stop being pushed on our children.”
Well this is disappointing.”
Others called the post “propaganda.”
But fans of Peppa also came out to praise the show for inclusivity and making ALL families feel seen and valued.
LGBTQ Sports Media founder and freelance journalist Jon Holmes wrote,
Thank you Peppa, fam and friends – our nephews love the show and that makes us very proud guncles!
Happy Pride.”
I don’t think the official Peppa has a problem with a few of you homophobes unfollowing I’m gonna be honest.”
My granddaughter loves Peppa, so thank you for celebrating our family.”
In recent weeks, leading up to Pride month several major companies including Bud Light, Target, Kohl’s, Adidas and The North Face have faced backlash for selling Pride-related products, or simply including LGBTQ people in their marketing campaigns.
The backlash has result in billions being wiped from the market value of Anheuser-Busch, the parent company of Bud Light as well as $12+ billion loss to Target in less than a month.
A #HappyPride it’s not, exactly. But we continue to say LOVE!
