Taron Egerton will star as Sir Elton John in the upcoming biopic about the singer, Rocketman, which follows John’s rise to stardom in the ’60s and ’70s.
But although Elton is gay, Egerton did NOT just come out…
An Instagram post last month set off a firestorm of speculation, but in a new interview, he’s cleared up the confusion.
In the post that left everyone wondering, Egerton said,
“Cutie. My boy [heart].”
When a commenter asked for the guy’s name, Egerton responded,
“Nah, he’s mine and mine only.”
Egerton also reportedly liked a comment that asked:
“Does that mean he’s got a boyfriend now?”
So Social media celebrated the actor’s coming out, but Egerton has now cleared it up in an interview with Metro,
“One of the lads was at my London flat and I Instagrammed a picture of him and said ‘Look at this cutie’, and a million outlets reported I was coming out as gay.
I’m not gay but two of my mates came out when I was 15 and it was a joy to support them because, as a group, we are all secure in who we are.”
Funny how these thing happen just as publicity for him playing an out gay man starts to hit, huh?
Rocketman blasts off in theaters next May.
