Facebook-owned Instagram finally deleted a post from pouty, right-wing power bottom Milo Yiannopoulos in which he lamented that the MAGA bombs hadn’t detonated and that no mail bombs sent were sent to the Daily Beast.
“Just catching up with news of all these pipe bombs,” Yiannopoulos wrote. “Disgusting and sad (that they didn’t go off, and the daily beast didn’t get one).”
Instagram initially said the post “does not violate our Community Guidelines” and refused to take it down.
After much hew and cry – and an article in the Daily Beast condemning them – Instagram suddenly backtracked and removed the post.
“This content violates our policies and has been removed from Instagram and Facebook,” Instagram spokeswoman Stephanie Noon said in an email. “We prohibit celebration or praise of crimes committed, and we will remove content praising a bombing attempt as soon as we’re aware.”
They then wrote to Yiannopoulis:
“We removed your post because it doesn’t follow out Community Guidelines. If you violate our guidelines again, your account may be restricted or disabled,” the company said.
He responded:
“It doesn’t matter whether your post violates their terms of service or not — only whether enough social justice warriors complain about it,” said Yiannopoulos. “Mob rule.”
I hate to admit it, but he’s kind of right. He’s rotten and horrible, but Facebook/Instagram are craven and cowardly. They should have taken down the post when it was first pointed out to them, and not supported it until they saw which way the masses were leaning. Looks like there are no clear good guys here.
