Yep, the headline says it all. Lyft is offering free (yes, you read it, FREE) rides in the Ghostbusters Mobile in preparation for the highly anticipated ‘Ghostbusters’ remake, which hits theaters on July 15th. We were able to sit down with WOWer Emily Marston’s boyfriend Patrick Lawrence for an exclusive tell-all of his experience riding in one this past weekend for his birthday!
WOW: First of all. I’m INSANELY jealous that you got to experience this. Emily is such a great girl friend. Like, did she tell you before or were you surprised when it showed up at your place?
Patrick: She had planned to surprise me for my birthday, but I found out about it a day before from a Facebook post. The fact that she was planning on surprising me with it anyway, still blew me away. She even planned a nice brunch at Lot 1 Cafe in Echo Park.
WOW: That’s amazing! What were your thoughts? It looked massive.
Patrick: There were 4 imitation Ecto-1s driving around and 1 screen accurate replica. We ended up with one of the dressed up cars, I think the driver told me it was a Highlander? The inside was fun the driver wore a replica Ghostbuster jumpsuit and even wore some round shades a la Kate McKinnon.
WOW: How many people can fit in it?
Patrick: Lyft said you could only get 2, but we got 4 ;)
WOW: What was your favorite part?
Patrick: Besides looking extremely cool driving down Sunset Blvd, we got a bag full of goodies, including some Hi-C Ecto Cooler that I had been trying to find all over LA, with zero success.
WOW: How did other cars/passerbys react to you?
Patrick: I saw a few people taking pictures and staring with their jaws wide open haha.
WOW: Was your Lyft driver a Ghostbusters fan?
Patrick: He seemed like it, He told me that he wanted to see if they’d let him keep the No Ghost magnets on the side of his car after it was done.
WOW: What is it about Ghostbusters that would make people a) what to ride in the mobile and b) go see the remake?
Patrick: Ghostbusters is my favorite film of all time, it came out 3 weeks before I was born and has had a lasting impression in my life. For me, it is a major bummer that Sony Pictures just could not leave well enough alone, but what are you gonna do? The thing that makes me feel safe in going to see the remake is that Paul Feig (Director) has a great track record of successful and hilarious comedies already under his belt, and the cast is rounded out by two of the funniest women I have ever seen Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
WOW: What was your favorite part about the original Ghostbusters?
Patrick: I love the amount of originality and imagination that went into writing the screenplay. Many of the fantastical things that you see/hear throughout the film were deeply thought out and developed by Dan Akyroyd to the point where he almost believes that they could exist in the real world. Also any one liner from Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), the ones I used the most are: “Ray, when someone asks you if you’re a god, you say Yes!,” “If there’s a steady paycheck in it… I’ll believe anything you say” and “This job is definitely not worth 11.5 a year.”
WOW: Aww, you’re like a real fan! I love it. What are you looking forward to most about the remake?Patrick: I guess I am excited to see how they create a new universe that doesn’t include the original Ghostbusters. I’m also excited to see the cameos from the original cast… And I hear there is a haunted Stay Puft Marshmallow Man parade balloon.
WOW: Would you recommend this ride to your friends?
Patrick: Oh yeah, it was a blast and it couldn’t have been more appropriate by happening on my birthday!
Follow Patrick on Instagram and who are you gonna call on July 15th? Ghosbusters! Or Lyft too…
