esterday we witnessed all the pomp and splendor surrounding the abdication of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and the coronation of her eldest son Willem-Alexander. Here, I’ve collected a few full length pics of the royal fashions on parade. First and foremost we have to drool over my beloved Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned of Qatar, because it really doesn’t get better than this. She’s so damn regal. So elegant. So modern, and yet so Old Hollywood. She looks like Rita Hayworth in an outfit designed by Adrian. Next to her is Princess Lalla Salma, whose name suggests she’s on Basketball Wives, but in fact is from the Moroccan royal family. I like her velvet medieval hippie get-up. Wouldn’t work for everyone, but she pulls it off. Next up is Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako of Japan. I wish her dress was made of a softer fabric that didn’t crease like that. And I wish she’d cock her hat to the side or tip it back or something. But that’s just me. Finally, it’s the Sultan of Brunei and his wife, and I just want to say how much I love the lilac brocade gown she’s wearing with the kablillion dollars worth of diamonds sewn onto it, and the mega-carat brooch that’s used to weight her hijab. Fabulous. Her husband looks like a little boy playing dress-up, however. You’d think he could afford a tailor for daddy’s jacket. (Photos: Pacific Coast News)
