As Babyshambles announces the start of an ambitious tour of European cities and festivals – and good luck with that – its colorful frontman has been making his own announcements, bless him. Of interest to gossips is his insistance that he and Kate Moss are to be married, despite her recent distance from him and her new and lucrative contract with Calvin Klein. “We are going to marry.” he told The Sun. “It’s going to happen at a Scottish castle somewhere between September and November. A posh Scottish castle. That’s gonna be so cool.” Then, of interest to musicologists is his self-comparison to John Lennon. After performing at a porn club in Austria, Doherty claimed to be the “new Lennon. Honestly, I am the most important rock star now. And you will hear lots of great songs from me in the near future.” He might have been high at the time. We’re just saying.
If those great songs are not quite as near in the future as hoped, in the interim we can look forward to a song about Pete on Courtney Love’s new album, currently in progress. Love can obviously empathize with Doherty’s troubles and has put her feelings about them to music. As The Sun reports in that way it has, “Babyshambles frontman Pete’s substance abuse is like sugar in your tea compared to the scale of ex-Hole singer Courtney’s former drug escapades.”
