USA is NOT A-OK, hunties! Real life racist and living proof that a crown doesn’t change the moral compass off an asshole’s character, Karlie Hay, miraculously won Miss Teen USA 2016 this past weekend. Hailing from Texas, she received her first introduction into the national spotlight by being haunted by the ghosts of her twitter account’s past from 2013-2014.
Grab some popcorn, a glass of white zin, and check out this little troll’s digital blast from the past after the cut:
In a series of really not okay tweets, Hay found herself sitting really pretty with the “N” word:
IF this isn’t you right now than I don’t know who you are:
IF those terrible tweets aren’t enough to make you upset, here’s what the organization issued:
“As Karlie stated, she was in a different place in her life and made a serious mistake she regrets and for which she sincerely apologizes.”The statement, obtained by KTRK, a CNN affiliate in Houston, near her hometown of Tomball, read: “The language Karlie Hay used is unacceptable at any age and in no way reflects the values of the Miss Universe Organization.” After condemning her language, it concluded that it was “committed to supporting her continued growth.”
I CALL:
What in the actual Hellmouth is going on over there in Miss Teen USA?
I mean, just look at how diverse their top 5 was this year:
Looks awfully familiar to this, huh?:
Hay went on to make her twitter private (go figure!) and issued this statement on her Instagram:
LOL, are you kidding me?
I’m all for rehabilitation in prison, but the RIGHT thing to do is to rip that crown off her head and send her to Ethics School 101. It doesn’t matter that her age is behind her, it matters because she said it regardless, and you know what? I wish I could be a bigger person and believe that she wouldn’t say that today, but I was told an amazing truth when I started working in television ages ago. My then boss and friend said, “You’re either a good person before you become famous and then you stay grounded your whole life. OR, you’re an asshole before you’re famous, and fame only makes you a bigger asshole.” I’m afraid that crown or not, Hay is just a racist prick who shouldn’t be getting the accolades she is getting and an organization that prides itself on open-mindedness and securing diversity should be ashamed of itself. People are dying based off the color of their skin every day, and they don’t have the privilege that she does to option out on their identity or a roadblock that segues into making an identifier in your life and issue a sordid apology and continue living her life without consequence.
I mean, my lord and savior, Vanessa Williams was stripped of her crown for doing something that wasn’t even close to being offensive:
I hope Miss Teen USA gets their shit together because we are tired of seeing this sort of history repeat itself.
