Last week I took a couple of my best pals to the south of Spain to visit family there and generally stumble about in the sun for a few days.
On the second night, we were walking through an enclave of bars and restaurants in a place called Puerto de la Duquesa and wandered upon a little place called Lola’s Showbar… mistaking it for a stripclub we ventured in and were met by two lovely guys called Andrew and Paul who owned the place.
Apparently they had both been in musicals for years and one of them had even been nominated for an Olivier Award at some point in the past… anyhow they’d recently moved to Spain with the dream of opening up a little cabaret place. They were so sweet and inviting we decided to stick around for the show 2 hours later.
I couldn’t recommend it more. Old showtunes, dirty fantastic drag, some classic crooning, an Amy Winehouse set that can’t be missed, and the best Rocky Horror “Timewarp” I’ve ever been party to.
By far, one of the most enjoyable nights out I’ve had in ages, with amazing hosts, and a vicious Long Island Iced Tea (so much so, we had photos taken in a bin on the stagger home).
If you ever happen to be in a little port town, halfway between Gibraltar and Marbella, look around for a place called Lola’s and tell the boys that Tom sent you.
