Did you catch Michael Urie last night in Jonathan Tolins’ BUYER & CELLAR live from his living room? It was something!
The premise of the show is inspired:
In the basement of a house on her Malibu estate, Barbra Streisand created a private fantasy of cobblestoned “street” of boutiques (that part is true!) Urie plays Alex More, who is down on his luck after being recently fired from Disneyland. Alex lands a job working in the shops in the basement of La Streisand. It is hilarious and moving and also really HILARIOUS!
The event raised money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund, which are helping those onstage, backstage and behind the scenes receive urgent medical care and financial assistance during the pandemic and work shutdown.
$50,000 has been raised from this live event and every donation is matched dollar for dollar. To donate go here.
BUYER & CELLAR was written by Jonathan Tolins, directed by Nic Cory, for this livestream from Michael Urie’s apartment. Based on the original production directed by Stephen Brackett, produced by Broadway.com and Rattlestick Playwright Theater in partnership with Pride Plays
