Sorry, Fenton and Steven and we’ll include our Brit-born self, but the English are an odd lot. In a recent poll conducted by the Beeb’s Culture Show to find Britain’s greatest living icon, pollsters voted the top three positions to wildlife commenter David Attenborough, erstwhile Beatle Paul McCartney, and The Smiths frontman Morrissey. The motley bunch also included David Bowie, Michael Caine, Stephen Fry, and Kate Moss. Greatest living icons, all. Of course we’re glad to see at least one woman recognized, but that it’s Moss puzzles us. Like them or not, isn’t Queen Elizabeth II slightly more iconic and Madonna a tad more vigorous contributor to culture than Pete Doherty’s beloved? (We know, Madge isn’t British – by birth.) We’re just saying it’s odd, that’s all. They seem to be poll mad in the UK, so we’re bound to agree with the next one. Or the one after that. (via Towleroad)
