You probably shouldn’t be driving on the highway or operating heavy machinery if you’re wearing some of these vision-obstructing pieces, but there’s a certain charm to wearing jewelry that covers your nose, eyes, and/or ears with sparkling gems and printed leather pieces made to look like facial features.
Akiko Shinzato, 29, made the collection as part of her degree in Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins, in London and said the idea came to her from the rise in plastic surgery as an alternative way for someone to completely change their features.
“We try to make ourselves look better or become someone else by means of make-up, cosmetic surgery and editing photos. I wanted to express this tendency with my jewellery practice, then came up with the idea of creating facial jewellery to substitute it for make-up.”
Explains The Daily Mail: “The shapes adornment features that are rarely highlighted with gems, such as a piece that adds a pink jewel to the tip of the nose. Another has a different nose placed over the model’s own nostrils which costs £230 and is made from tanned leather. Two ruby-red jewels underneath the eyes on one piece also give a clownlike appearance which costs £400.”
I need all of them, thank you very much.
