The spontaneous, inclusive, and colorful “All Black Lives Matter” street mural on Hollywood Boulevard is being recreated as a permanent part of Hollywood Boulevard between Orange and Highland streets. The new version will not span several lanes as the temporary original did, but it will be permanently maintained as part of a pedestrian island in the middle of the famous street. It retains the original design and color, just smaller.
Via Los Angeles Times:
The permanent mural is the result of a partnership among StreetsLA, City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, the L.A. Department of Transportation, the Department of Cultural Affairs, Black LGBTQ+ Activists for Change, the Los Angeles Transgender Advisory Council and others.
This is the very first public space installation devoted to the Black queer community and transgender people of color. It’s the right time, it’s about time, and when Hollywood speaks, the audience notices.
Right on! Next time you head to the heart of tourist Hollywood, check it out as you cross the street.
