Hilary Duff and Kim Cattrall play younger and older Sophie, respectively, in Hulu’s new trailer for How I Met Your Father. The series premieres January 18.
Rounding out the ensemble cast are Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, and Suraj Sharma. Cattrall, who was notably absent from the recent Sex and the City reboot, surprised and delighted fanswith the cameo.
For her part, Duff told Jess Cagle earlier this year she’s ready for another Lizzie McGuire-type story arc:
There’s great characters and I’m going to get to have another on-set family, another TV family. There’s so much opportunity for love stories with this show because it’s Sophie and then, three dudes. So it’s going down that whole rabbit hole of like, well, which one was the father? And you get to like go through all of Sophie’s young experience of finding love and dating and what that’s like in the modern world.
Though it will be hard to top its inspiration, How I Met Your Mother, fans of Duff will no doubt check out the show in hopes of witnessing another big hit. Cattrall’s role as narrator is a little different than in the original series. In that, Bob Saget narrated the show as the older version of Ted, but he never appeared onscreen.
