The untimely death of Hey Qween diva Lady Red Couture at age 43 has prompted an outpouring of support from the trans, Black, queer, and drag communities. Host Jonny McGovern has just shared a moving tribute to his dear friend.
The channel also published a longer interview where Lady Red’s kindness, wisdom, and joy are on full display.
Lady Red was the stage name of Kareemia Barnes. Following Lady Red’s death on July 25 of complications from a chronic digestive issue, her sister Krystle set up a GoFundMe to cover her end-of-life expenses:
We are devastated by the loss of Lady Red as is the world and we want to be able to lay Lady Red to rest properly. The family will need as much help as they can get to handle her final arrangements as well as hospital bills which since she was in the intensive care for so long are bound to be astronomical. As a black trans woman, Lady Red had many hardships on her journey but she persevered and brought so much joy to so many people we ask that you give as much as you can to help put her to rest in the way that she deserves.
If you’d like to contribute to the fund to help lay Lady Red to rest, you can do so here.
Rest in fierce, beautiful.
