This show kinda stinks, don’t you think? We thought those every-15-minutes promos for NBC’s new sitcom Committed made it look somewhat promising. Then we saw Tuesday’s premier ep. Those leads, Josh Cooke and Jennifer Finnigan, should chillax. The Incredibles don’t overact this much. We felt we were sitting uncomfortably in the first row of a community theater production of a Neil Simon “comedy” performed by talented amateurs who were directed to PROJECT. But comedy, like a foreign language, isn’t made clearer with volume. Finnigan, who plays the excessively wacky Marni with a voice like a dentist’s drill and the wide, vacuous eyes of the Little Annie Fannie character from Playboy, told the Associated Press today that comedy was new to her but she wanted to give it a try. “I knew I could do drama,” said the former soap star, “but comedy is really difficult.”
All that said, this still could become our new favorite show. Another ep airs tonight.
