You might not have noticed but there have been a few changes at The White House. It’s only been 65 days and I am nearly spent with nervous exhaustion. How are you doing? Sometimes it is just the tiniest details that might go unnoticed now that we must fight full force every day.
One of the first things I was alarmed by, besides his hair and his dreadful family, was what was up at whitehouse.gov site where several pages changed dramatically and some disappeared altogether, including the page on LGBT Rights, a rather full, vibrant, intriguing, and joyful page just three months ago.
In the first hour after he took office, the new POTUS had repealed and replaced whitehouse.gov/lgbt with some weird “Transitionsplash” page. That’s gone now, but, The White House LGBT link is gone forever, or at least for the next four years.
Barack Obama’s administration introduced the White House LGBT page to highlight their significant legislative achievements, historic court victories and policy changes that improved the lives of Gay and Transgender people. The page also celebrated other organization’s efforts for Gay Rights like the It Gets Better campaign to help young people in our LGBT community who were struggling with thoughts of suicide.
Also gone is the Strengthening Civil Rights page. Sent back to the 1950s, I figure.
When I used the whitehouse.gov search engine today, typing in the word “Gay”, the single entry was one sentence stating that First Lady Grace Coolidge offset Calvin’s shyness with her gay friendliness. And, I don’t think they meant that she was welcoming to homos. When I tried “LGBT”, the search brought only this exchange from a transcript of a press conference on March 13:
SPICEY: Sure. Let’s go one at a time.
Q.: There’s been a rash of attacks on LGBT community centers throughout the nation. Over the weekend, the community center here in D.C., Casa Ruby, was attacked and a transgender staffer was assaulted. This follows similar attacks that have taken place in recent days in Orlando, Florida, New Jersey and Oklahoma. This is not unlike the anti-Semitism that the President has already denounced. Will the President also denounce these attacks?
SPICEY: Sure. I mean, I think that… I think one of the points that we’ve made in previous statements on this is that this is not the way that we as Americans solve our differences. We don’t attack each other. We don’t engage in this kind of behavior. I think we have a First Amendment that allows us to express ourselves, and that’s the appropriate way.
Q.: Is it connected to the withdrawal of the transgender guidance, do you think?
SPICEY: Is it what?
Q.: Is it at all connected…
SPICEY: I don’t believe there is any connection between… I think that that would be a stretch, to say the least.
Will LGBT people ever be acknowledged by this administration? POTUS has been praised by the charming Republican group The Log Cabin Republicans as “he most pro-LGBT nominee in the history of the Republican party.”And yet, those same Log Cabin Republicans also refused to endorse him as a candidate.
The LGBT community has every reason to be concerned about the new President, especially since Vice President Mike Pence has been outspoken in his opposition to laws protecting the LGBT community.
Until he took office, the White House website had a calculator that allowed you to enter your tax payment amounts, and you see a breakdown of where your money goes using a colorful pie chart. That’s gone now too. I guess they want us to live in blissful ignorance while he Makes America Great Again.
And since the whole country is sliding into ruin, why stop at our own border? It also appears that any mention of Climate Change has also been erased throughout the whitehouse.gov site.
What the White Nationalists have added to the site is a page called Obamacare Disaster Stories, where citizens are invited to tell how the most LGBT friendly POTUS in history has ruined their lives. The page on the disaster called Obamacare claims: “It has led to higher costs and fewer health insurance options for millions of Americans. How has it impacted you? Share your story with the President.” He likes to read them while enjoying a family size bucket of KFC, but you shouldn’t. It would be bad for your health.
And, because it is so very important, First Lady Melania’s biography page on WhiteHouse.gov makes note of her QVC jewelry line.
Here is a link to site you might like; it gives us a countdown to when he will be gone: https://howlonguntiltrumpleaves.com/. I give it a glance once a day.
