The Grammys set lots of records last night.
Viola Davis emerged an EGOT winner after her win for Best audio book, narration and storytelling recording.
Taking the stage she said,
Oh, my God. I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola, to honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, everything.
It has just been such a journey…
I just EGOT!”
The honor follows her Emmy win for How to Get Away With Murder in 2015, an Oscar for Fences in 2017, and a Tony for both King Hedley II in 2001 and Fences in 2010.
Davis is only the third Black woman to claim EGOT status (following Whoopi Goldberg & Jennifer Hudson) and the 18th person ever to achieve the rare quadruple entertainment crown.
