Last night Beyoncé broke the record for most Grammy award wins EVER.
Her win for Best R&B Song award for Cuff It tied her for most Grammys of all time but the award for Best Dance/Electronic Album for Renaissance, was her history-making moment.
Queen Bey took the stage “trying not to get too emotional” and said that she was
just trying to receive this night.”
She thanked God for “protecting me,” and her late Uncle Jonny,
who’s not here, but he’s here in spirit.”
In the liner notes for Renaissance, she described her Uncle Jonny (who was gay and died of AIDS-related complications) as the
godmother and the first person to expose me to a lot of the music and culture that serve as inspiration for this album.”
Beyoncé also thanked the queer community,
for your love, and for inventing the genre.”
Renaissance was THE album of the summer of ’22, an ode to disco and NYC’s ballroom scene, a community founded by Black, gay and trans people.
