Martin Sheen says his name is still legally Ramon Estévez, and he regrets ever changing it…
The star of The West Wing and Grace & Frankie told Closer Weekly,
That’s one of my regrets.
Sometimes you get persuaded when you don’t have enough insight or even enough courage to stand up for what you believe in, and you pay for it later. But, of course, I’m only speaking for myself.
I never changed my name officially.
It’s still Ramon Estévez on my birth certificate.”
His legal name is also on his marriage license, passport and driver’s license.
His two actor sons, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estévez, went in different directions, in more ways than one.
The only influence I had on Emilio was to keep his name…
When he started out, his agent was advising him to change his name to Sheen and he wouldn’t do it. And I thank God he didn’t.”
Sheen just wrapped his role the as the husband of Sam Waterston on the closing season of Grace & Frankie, Netflix’s longest running series beating Orange Is the New Black by three episodes.
