Ginger Minj is headlining Golden-Con: Thank You For Being a Fan, the second annual three-day fan convention coming March 31 – April 2, 2023.
Minj’s all drag parody, The Golden Gals Live! will play opening and closing nights. Ging says,
We’re packing up our cheesecake and coming back to Chicago for Golden-Con so we can show the world’s biggest Golden Girls fans how much we love Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia.”
Producer Brendan Balof, who organizes the event with his brother, Bradley Balof and Zack Hudson — are all RABID GG fans. Hudson says,
Honey, I put up a Thank You For Being A Friend at Christmas tree every year. ‘The Golden Girls’ means everything to me.”
Brendan Balof says of the first outing,
If you couldn’t feel the love and the laughter at Golden-Con, then I’d check your pulse.
It was like nothing I’d ever seen. People made friends with complete strangers as they bonded over a show that often means more to them than just the great laughs.
It was beautiful to see and very gratifying.”

One person who was on every single episode of the show, but whose face was never seen was Thank You For Being A Friend theme song vocalist Cindy Fee who says,
The love from the fans at Golden-Con was unreal. I know how popular the show is.
The fans at Golden-Con were there to share and they made it something bigger than what it was.”

Ginger Minj, who began producing and directing Golden Gals Live! from Orlando in 2018 says,
This show is a live tribute to the very beloved original.”
The show’s cast has been the same since 2018; Ginger Minj is Blanche, Divine Grace is Dorothy, Gidget Galore is Rose, and MR MS Adrien is Sophia. Ginger says their ’23 show promises to be “brand new and exclusive” to the event.
There’s SO much happening at this event, when the organizers sent me the info my head was spinning. To say that the producers and those participating are “fans” is an understatement. It should be called
Golden-Con: Thank you for Being OBSESSED!

Last year Anthony Riccadonna, a GG superfan and TikTok-er who came to Golden-Con in ’22 without a clue that his boyfriend, David Price, had secretly arranged to stage a surprise, public proposal on stage. Everybody say LOVE!
You just know that there will be even more surprises in store this year.
Golden Con is March 31 – April 2 in Chicago. For tickets and info go here.
