There’s a new Pit Crew member in town, and he’s got all the right moves!
Get ready to be gagged, squirrel friends–RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! just opened, and it’s already making Vegas herstory with insane dance numbers, an iconic cast, original music, and all the looks that will blow your mind.
With years of dance experience, Michael has shaken things up over on the big stage. We sat down with the newest Pit Crew member to spill all the tea on his dance journey, being part of the show, dancing with the queens, and more.
Where are you from?
I’m originally from Germany, by way of Houston, Texas, and now I’m living in Las Vegas.
When and how did your journey as a dancer begin?
I’ve always been a lover of music, but my journey of dance began when i was 14 years old, sneaking into the gay clubs and learning the first style of J-Sette dancing, which is black majorette dancing. When the kids saw me doing that, the queens snatched me up and put me in the pageants. And now I’m here, and I’m dancing for the biggest pageant in the world.
How did you feel when you knew that you were going to be a part of the show?
Honestly, I was conflicted and confused. A lot of people don’t know that I bought a one-way ticket to go home on November 13th, and that was before the audition. I had every plan of leaving LA to put my dreams on hold, just to go home and rebirth myself. But when I got the phone call from Jamal to come to the audition, I knew God had a bigger plan for me and sure enough, I booked the job and I’m a contributing choreographer to the job, I’m dance captain, and I’m performing with friends…that’s fucking amazing!
What’s the best thing about being in Vegas?
The best thing for me, is honestly being here with a group of friends that I’ve known since I was a teenager, and before any of us had a star platform or a stage to perform on for the whole world. It’s amazing, seeing us grow together and level up together, and share success together.
What’s your favorite part about being in the show?
I get the chance to perform in an amazing, colorful show, day-in and day-out, with a full LGBTQ cast.
What’s something you learned from being part of the show?
I’ve learned to let my guard down, and to trust the process, and to be free with my choices throughout the show. There’s no right or wrong way to do it; it’s commitment and performing.
Any notable or funny stories from rehearsals?
So, this week is the first week that we’ve seen the girls in drag, and it’s just so hilarious to see the 180 degree transformation as soon as the heels and the wigs come on. They have a softness to them when they dance as boys, but when the wigs come on…oh honey, watch out! Fierce mamacitas come out.
What is something the fans should look forward to in the production?
The production is going to blow your socks off! I dont know if you’ve ever seen the Werq the World tours or if you’ve seen stuff that happens on the runway for the show, but it’s like taking both of those and making them have a baby…it’s just an amazing live experience. We’re taking you through a live episode! So if you’re a fan of the show, you’re going to see it come to life in a bigger way than you’ve ever imagined.
Why should everyone come out and see RuPaul’s Drag Race Live?
Because motherfucking RuPaul has a show on the Las Vegas strip. It’s an all-gay cast, fierce and fabulous phenomenons, and it’s taking over the Vegas strip. That’s why you should come to the show. Support your community!
