There’s a new Pit Crew member in town, and he’s got all the right moves!
Get ready to be gagged, squirrel friends–RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! just opened, and it’s already making Vegas herstory with insane dance numbers, an iconic cast, original music, and all the looks that will blow your mind.
Having been on the Werq the World tour, Filip knows a thing or two about dancing with queens in a huge production, and that has definitely translated on the Vegas stage. We sat down with the newest Pit Crew member to spill all the tea on his experience working with the queens, what he’s learned from the show, some of the best moments from rehearsals, and much more.
Where are you from?
I am from Prague, Czech Republic. I moved to the U.S. nine years ago, spent six years in New York, and three in LA.
When and how did your journey as a dancer begin?
I started dancing at the age of 3. Michael Jackson was definitely my main inspiration. He had some sort of swag that I immediately appreciated. The dramatic moves, music, and costumes made me feel like, “I wanna do that!” I got to go to his concert in Prague in ’96 when I was 5 years old, and I dressed in an MJ t-shirt and hat.
How did you feel when you knew that you were going to be a part of the show?
I’ve been lucky to work with Ru girls for about three years now, as I was a part of the Werq the World tour, which was an amazing, life-changing experience. I was super excited when I found out about Vegas, especially because I’ve heard a lot about Jamal’s work and was really thrilled to work with him.
What’s the best thing about being in Vegas?
I think it’s really fun that we all stay together; it’s kind of like a weird sleep-away camp. We’ve been busy with long rehearsal days, but I’m excited to watch movies and drink wine with everybody soon.
What’s your favorite part about being in the show?
My favorite part is definitely showtime. It is a special time when people forget about the negative and enjoy themselves!
What’s something you learned from being part of the show?
We’ve rehearsed the show for about three months now, and the last month has been intense. I’m learning to be focused, patient, and to push through mentally and physically but know the result will be worth it!
Any notable or funny stories from rehearsals?
Vanjie sliding down the pole for the first time was hilarious, looking like a firefightress. She was using her hands to come down, instead of just smoothly sliding down, and it wasn’t very sexy…she looked more like Tarzan…but she quickly got it together!
What is something the fans should look forward to in the production?
The Pit Crew!
Why should everyone come out and see RuPaul’s Drag Race Live?
It’s just a super fun show with a great cast. The level of production will definitely guarantee a good time!
