Mugler’s Nicola Formichetti partnered with gaming company CCP to create a fashion avatar for his hot zombie muse Rick Genest, then went on to design a virtual wardrobe for it. The resulting video is fascinating, and not quite as trifling as it sounds. “It’s not outrageous to think,” he explains, “that in the not-so-near future, many of us will have digital avatars of ourselves (for whatever reason) and THAT’S how we’ll interact with people. And once you have that, of course you’ll want to individualize and personalize your avatar because that is how you’ll represent yourself to the community.” Watch the “making of” video above and then see the Rico avatar stomping through a stylishly dystopian space station in his digital black leather jumpsuit below. And while I find much of Nicola’s public persona to be mean-spirited and annoying, he seems to be one of the few truly forward-thinking people in fashion and that’s pretty refreshing. Props to him.
