Solid Gold debuted on September 13, 1980. What was different about this hit music show was the Solid Gold Dancers performing in revealing, oh-so 80s looks to the top ten hits of the week. Not everyone loved it, and at the time The New York Times referred to it as,
“the pop music show that is its own parody…[with] lust and aerobic toning—routines that typically have a minimal connection with the songs that back them up.“
It ran until July 23, 1988 and was broadcast on Saturday evenings. Here’s a fun series of flashbacks and Drag Race queens, see if you don’t get some styling tips from the the outfits. There are over 60 compilations of the Solid Gold Dancers on YouTube, here are a few to get you started.
