In celebration of Gay Pride Month, DRKRM/Gallery is premiering this Saturday, June 12, “Frank Melleno: The Fairoaks Project,” a never-before-seen collection of provocative 12″x12″ archival prints of Polaroids from a San Francisco bathhouse called The Fairoaks Hotel, circa 1978. This collection of photos illustrates the counter-cultural, playful, and affectionate atmosphere of San Francisco before the AIDs crisis. They mainly contain candid sexual scenes, nudity, a few dressed in festive attire, and some engaging in other counter-cultural lifestyles, all taking place at the hotel. These photos were kept in a box all these years, and have not been seen until now! Also, pick up your very own limited-edition book of photographs from the exhibit, available at the gallery. The opening reception will feature appetizers and cocktails and live music from The Boyfriend. Opening night is from 7-10PM, and the show continues every day until June 27th. DRKRM/Gallery is on 2121 N San Fernando Road, Suite 3, in the Capitol Studios Building in the Glassell Park section of Northeast Los Angeles. (via DRKRM; t/y Blair)
