The OTHER big event last night was the General Hospital/James Franco/Museum of Contemporary Art exhibit at the Pacific Design Center last night. The exhibit wasn’t real: It was the soap opera character Franco’s art that was being shown, and the party was being filmed for an episode of General Hospital. WOW’s own Mary Ann Heagerty was there and gave us the details. In the scene that was being filmed, James wore a tuxedo with slick-backed hair, which was “hot, but in a very soap opera way.” Mary Ann never got to talk to him, as he was “deep in concentration” most of the time. She did get a smile, a wave, and a nod later in the night, though. Also in the scene was Dominic Zamprogna who plays the guido-rrific cop Dante Falconeri. I asked if Dominic was a dwarf in real life (as I suspected) and she assured me that he was indeed normal-sized. We can all breathe easy now. SPOILER ALERT: In the scene, the character Franco apparently commits suicide at his opening by jumping off a balcony (they threw a dummy down in real life). I’m sure it’s just a soap opera death, though, and Franco is really lurking in the shadows. Anyway, also at the party were former GH cast member Amber Tamblyn, model Stella Tennant, and designer Jeremy Scott. Other tidbits: It was a CASH BAR (the nerve!), there were bowls of red M&Ms everywhere (to signify BLOOD?), and artist/collaborator Kalup Linzy performed “Summertime” from Porgy & Bess on-camera for the episode. “He wasn’t that good,” Mary Ann’s friend confided later. Also it was rather cattily observed that Franco’s art is more fabulous than James Franco’s. But that doesn’t mean we love him any less.
